Disabled Parking - Assholes in Penrith
Like many people, I used to pull into disabled spots when I was "just ducking into the shop for a minute". Yes, I know it was wrong, I just didn't realise HOW wrong until I had a motorcycle accident in 2013 and had my own Disabled Permit for about 3 months - with my ex having to drive me around and not being able to get a parking spot I quickly realised how frustrating it was for genuinely disabled people, and can proudly say I was responsible for my fair share of fines in the day.
It became, and still is, somewhat of a hobby horse for me. Which is why this one pisses me off so much.
There is an Arcade in Penrith, Riverlands Arcade, opposite Westfield - directly opposite the entry to Myers from High St. I had an appointment just down from it the other day and had to park out in the street in the back lane, because there was no parking available (notoriously bad).
As I was walking through their carpark (a PRIVATE carpark, so Council cannot/will not do anything about it), I noticed someone parking in one of the only two spots. So I checked his car out and guess what - no pass.
After some digging (I was 30 minutes early for my appointment), I found out that he worked in the Barber shop on High St. So I wandered around and found out who he was...
Me: Is that car parked in the disabled spot out back yours?
Him: Yeah - what of it.
Me: You want to go out and move your car ? You don't have a permit and there's an old guy looking for a parking spot that does.
Him: He can park somewhere else. What are you going to do about it ?
Me: Well, Police and Council have already been called and photos sent to them - but it's going to be hard to drive home with 4 flat tyres.
Him: F**k off
Note that I had no intention of damaging his tyres, but the threat of it was annoying enough. So I went to my appointment and over an hour later he was still there, and people were still looking for a park. I had told the Council about it at 9:40am, and by 12:30pm they still hadn't arrived (more on that later).
I went home and the following day I happened to be out and about and I thought I'd check - there was ANOTHER one there. A bit more digging and it turned out he was also from the aforementioned barbershop. Apparently, they don't give a shit about disabled people, and think they can park there at any time.
Here's the other one from the following day.
I don't know what it is with these losers, but they don't seem to have any regard for the elderly in our society, nor do they have common manners, given that there are two or 3 large carparks just across the road, as well as Westfield on the other side.
I met with James, one of the Rangers from Penrith Council, and he informed me that as the owners of that carpark have not given Council permission to operate in there, they can't ticket these fools or have them towed, so the best thing is to get as many as possible to boycott that Barber Shop (I think it's actually called HABIBI's).
If anyone has any creative ideas as to how we can get back at them, please let me know.
Oh, and according to Council, although it's a "road-related area" they can't do anything - so by that logic I could go to Westfield across the road and park in one of their disabled spots and there's not a damn thing they can do about it.

Hi . Yes, this is our shop . But these cars do not belong to anyone who works in this shop . You did ask us before about the car and our answer was" No!"
ReplyDeleteSo call the police and the council if you are happy . But also, we will send this post to the police as you are doing fake posts regarding our business .
It is better if you delete our shop photo. And you are free to post any photos eles with any post .
This is an illegal boss.
Thank you for your understanding.
